About Beat a Maxx

A DJ’s instinct. An audiovisual imagination.

Beat a Maxx treats the decks, the screen and the room as one instrument.

A DJ, turntablist, live remix artist and audiovisual creator, Adrian Hall builds performances from music, film, archive and custom visuals. A familiar vocal can lead somewhere unexpected; a scratch can become a visual punchline. The pleasure is in recognising something, then hearing and seeing what he does with it.

That instinct comes from thousands of DJ performances. Across clubs, festivals and international events, he has developed a musical language rooted in hip-hop, UK garage, drum and bass and house, with an ear for the samples and connections running between them. Around 300 specialist Beat a Maxx audiovisual shows have taken that experience onto screens without losing its connection to the dance floor.

His live history includes Bestival’s main stage, Pacha Ibiza and a special DJ appearance at the Royal Albert Hall for Ministry of Sound Classical. The same musical curiosity has taken him into BBC production, where his work turns extensive music archives into tightly constructed audiovisual stories.

BBC & broadcast

For Radio 1 Vintage, he wove historic station jingles into the music of their eras, developing an experimental idea with BBC producers into the station’s opening mix. His subsequent work includes 50 Years of Hip-Hop and The Music Is Black Mixtape with Shortee Blitz. His BBC audiovisual production work has received New York Festivals Gold recognition.

The range is audible in the work itself. His 150-track R&B and hip-hop mix for BBC Radio 1Xtra compresses a vast catalogue into approximately 15 minutes. For a separate BBC commission, he reinterpreted Beethoven using original orchestral multitracks.

“Give the audience something to connect with, something to watch and a reason to move.”

Brands & collaboration

That ability to build something specific also shapes his work for brands. For Samsung, he created an approximately hour-long, space-themed audiovisual performance, developing the music, visuals and branded material around the brief. His corporate experience also includes Google, Mastercard and repeat work for Computacenter.

Adrian brings the same collaborative approach to the edit suite, rehearsal room and stage: listening to the brief, developing ideas and refining the performance with the people making it happen.

He can deliver a music-led DJ/AV set or join a production earlier to help create its musical and visual identity. Whatever the setting, the purpose stays clear: give the audience something to connect with, something to watch and a reason to move.
